Tom and Jerry cartoon

Tom and Jerry are cartoon characters created by the animators William Hannah and Joseph Barbera. Tom is a cat and Jerry is a mouse. They formed the basis of a successful series of animated short films produced by Metro-Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) in the period 1940-1958. In the 60's they were produced by foreign studios (Gene Deitch's Rembrandt Films in 1961-62 and Chuck Jones' Sib Tower 12 Production from 1963-67). Tom and Jerry later reappeared, appearing in animated films produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions (1975-77 and 1990-93) and Filmation Studios (1980-82). The first episodes of Hannah and Barbera are remarkable in that they won seven Oscars.
